Raf Simons,52 will join forces with Miuccia Prada,71 as a co-creative director. The announcement came out on the last day of Milan fashion week, 2 days after Miuccia Prada last solo ready-to-wear show. They will share “equal responsibilities for creative input and decision-making,” the announcement said. This move might refresh and renew the fashion world. Their first collection will debut this September in Milan.
Raf Simons has a lot to be proud of. With a long and impressive resume- previously designed for Jil Sander since 2005. In 2012 he joined Christian Dior and in 2016 he joined his role as a creative officer of Calvin Klein, Which left in 2018.
“I see more and more the possibility of having a strong business without strong creation. That is something we do not agree with, Miuccia and myself, and I know for a fact many designers do not agree with it. We think we should not forget in this business about creativity.” Simons said during the news conference.
Although it's not something rare to see designers collaborate with fashion houses, this takes the concept to another level. It's very impressive to see two leading designers in the fashion world leaving their ego aside and decide to shake hands and work together. maybe it's because they share the same hobbies such as contemporary art or maybe it's just a perfect fit, but we'll have to wait and see. I personally can't wait to see Simon's contribution to the fashion house.
This is the chance for both of them to shine. For Simons, it's a wonderful opportunity to return designing for high European style (after Calvin Klein), For Prada, this could be a revival wake up call from the coma she was in for so many years. And for us, the customers it's a great reminder that the fashion industry is always changing and for once, the change occurred because of excitement and modernization and for that only, Bravo!
